Mark Stokes - Former Metropolitan Police Leader and Forensics Expert
The former head of digital, cybercrime, and communications forensics at London, UK’s Metropolitan Police, Mark Stokes has more than 38 years of experience in forensic science. He worked at the police service for 12 years, managing 160 staff while delivering major organizational transformations to enhance efficiency and service delivery. He also played a central role in developing national digital forensic standards as chair of the Forensic Regulator’s Digital Forensics ISO17025 Specialist Group. For his dedicated work, the Metropolitan Police awarded Mark Stokes a commendation.
Mark Stokes is a highly respected digital forensics expert and expert witness. He has provided expert evidence in the Central Criminal Court, the High Court, and courts across the UK, contributing to some of the country’s most complex and high-profile investigations, including major murder and terrorism cases.
Currently serving as chief technology officer and director at Engineering and Forensic Services Ltd, Mr. Stokes undertakes complex casework, advises legal teams, and continues active research in digital forensics. He also consults with universities on the development of digital forensic courses, laboratories, and standards, and is a visiting lecturer at the University of East London.
Previously, Mr. Stokes was head of the forensic digital evidence unit at Covert Policing, where he led the establishment of a new digital forensic unit and worked with Ministry of Justice officials to solve a complex issue in the prison service. He is an alumnus of Hastings College of Arts and Technology and is a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
